Prof. Olayemi Omotade
Professor Olayemi Omotade is an accomplished Consultant Pediatrician and Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Ibadan. He is also the Director of the Institute of Child Health in the College of Medicine. Prof. Omotade is a clinical geneticist, and his research interests span community/preventive pediatrics and clinical genetics. He has undertaken research on infectious and communicable diseases and has published over 70 papers in international and regional journals.
As a member of numerous professional associations including the Pediatrics Association of Nigeria, American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, and the Clinical Genetics Society of Great Britain, he has participated in program planning and monitoring with international organizations including WHO, UNICEF, and UNDP at both the country and international levels.
He has received several awards, including the Fogarty Fellowship for Bioethics at the Case Western Reserve University Cleveland Ohio. He was instrumental in drawing up Nigeria’s National Ethical Guidelines and was a member of the National Ethics Review Board for Nigeria as well as for the Joint IRC University of Ibadan/University College Hospital.
Prof. Omotade is a member of several expert technical groups, including the WHO Expert Technical group on IPTi and the International Advisory Board, Institute for Research on Unlimited Love, Altruism Compassion Service, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He is committed to strengthening research capability in Africa and has been a member of the WHO Research and Capability Strengthening Group since 2007.
