Beyond Limitations: Empowering Female Amputees Through Skills Training

At Feet of Grace Foundation, we set out this year to enlarge our capacity to impact lives—and it’s happening.

From February 3rd to 14th, 2025, we are equipping 26 extraordinary women with disabilities (female amputees) with life-changing skills. These women—some with one missing leg, some with two, some with broken prosthetic limbs, one with a baby in her arms—have traveled from across seven states (Cross River, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo States) to embrace a future beyond their disabilities.

This 10-day Skill Acquisition Training Program is more than just training. It’s empowerment. Independence. A new beginning.

They will master small business management, budgeting, financial literacy, and record keeping—essentials for building sustainable livelihoods. They will also train in:

  • Hairstyling & Make-up Artistry
  • Tailoring
  • Catering
  • Computer Skills
  • Adire (Tie & Dye) and Soap Making as add-on skills

Why does this matter? Because when women with disabilities gain economic independence, they don’t just change their own lives—they uplift their families, strengthen their communities, and challenge the world’s expectations.

We remind them daily: YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM. Their disabilities do not define them. Their resilience does.

Already, the impact is undeniable. On Day 3:

  • The catering group made sausage rolls, meat pies, and cupcakes
  • The tailoring group learned how to cut a skirt and use sewing machines
  • The computer group explored Microsoft Office
  • The make-up group practiced eyebrow shaping, concealer techniques, and color blending

This program, funded by Capital Group’s Equity and Justice Donation Program, is a key part of our Women Walking and Working Project—pushing beyond prosthetics to empower women for more.
