Fasan Joy. BELOW THE KNEE AMPUTEE. ONE LIMB
Joy Fasan is a 15-year-old student. She had a traumatic amputation of her leg following an accident in April 2014. She has been using a pair of crutches to move around since then. She is in desperate need of a prosthetic limb.
Joy lives with her parents in Akure. She is a below-the-knee amputee who desires to walk again without support. The provision of a prosthetic limb will allow her to regain her autonomy. She has received her prosthetics limb
OKOLIE NNEOMA. ONE LIMB
Nneoma was a seven years old above-the-kneel amputee in 2017. She was born with a congenital disability that affected the right side of her body (her leg and hand). She could not walk properly and fell every time she tried to. Nneoma’s father died when she was five years old, and her mother took her to a traditional Bone setter to help reset her leg. She has a severely disabled older brother who requires constant daily care, which preoccupies her mother’s attention to the extent that she did not immediately notice that the leg had been mismanaged until it was too late. It had become gangrenous and had to be amputated.
Nneoma could not use crutches because she could not hold things properly with her right hand. She hopped most of the time on her left leg. She continued to fall and hurt herself both at School and home. Her left leg became bent under the pressure of her weight. Falcon corporation donated the funds for the prosthetic rehabilitation of Nneoma is now going to School by herself. After overcoming the stares and comments from other pupils, Nneoma is now treated like any other pupil in the school. This has significantly reduced the burden on her mother.
Nneoma had corrective surgery in 2020 to stabilise and strengthen her remaining leg. She replaced her prosthetic limb in 2021, which was repaired several times in 2022. Nneoma is growing fast. She is 13 years old and in urgent need of a new leg. Nneoma has received her prosthetics limb
TIMILEHIN ODOLE. Above-The-Knee. One Limb.
He was out on an errand with his senior brother. They had to cross a bustling road in Lagos. That was when a motorcyclist hit him. It was on this 10th Birthday. His leg was eventually amputated two weeks later, on December 17th, 2015. Timilehin stopped going to School after the amputation. He struggled both physically and emotionally with his amputation. He wore a kaftan-like outfit to cover them until two older amputees counselled him and showed their stumps during the 2016 screening exercise. He changed into a pair of shorts afterwards.
The preceding further emphasises the need for psych-social support for amputees post-amputation as part of the rehabilitation process. After reading his story, two young college men adopted him and started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds so that Timilehin could have a prosthetic limb. Timilehin received a prosthetic limb later in 2016 and an educational scholarship through a partnership with the Rehoboth Dream Solid Foundation, which enabled him to return to school. He is an excellent student. He has outgrown the limb provided in 2016. The limb was replaced in 2018 and 2020.
Timilehin is 17 years old now and has grown taller. He requires another limb to make up for the difference in the height of his natural leg. Timilehin has received his final prosthetics limb.
Rebecca Abosede Idowu. Above The Knee. One Limb.
Rebecca is a 25-year-old hair stylist who lost her leg following a road traffic accident in 2019. She was on her way to walk on January 16th when the motorcycle she was riding was hit by a truck. The truck crushed the bike and her leg.
After a failed attempt to save the leg at the General Hospital, Rebecca was referred to Igbobi Orthopedic Hospital in Lagos. The doctors informed her parents that the only option was an amputation of the leg. It took the parents three days to consent to the surgery.
Standing on one leg to work has become extremely difficult for her. Her family cannot afford the cost of the prosthetic limb she needs. They are both petty traders.
Providing a prosthetic limb will boost Rebecca’s confidence and sense of worth. It will also help her to manage her business better. . Rebecca has received her limb and seed fund to support her business
Odenore Scholastica. Below-The-Knee. One Limb.
Scholastica is a 30-year-old woman from Benin City, Edo State. She had an accident in 1996 when she was six years old. A hit-and-run driver knocked her down. She was rushed to the hospital, where they used a pop bandage for an extended period without changing it.
Unfortunately, the leg was damaged beyond repair, which led to the amputation of the leg in 2013. She has been using a locally made prosthetic limb and urgently needs a new one. Scholastica has received her prosthetics limb
Adijat Adeyemi. Below-The-Knee. One Limb.
Adijat Adeyemi lost her left leg at the age of 6 when she was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road. Her family took her to a Traditional Bone Setter for treatment. After three days, her condition worsened, and she was rushed to the Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Unfortunately, the leg had developed gangrene and had to be amputated in January 2000.
Adijat is 28 years. She completed her SSCE in 2018 and currently works as a make-up artist. She received her first prosthetic leg from the Rotary Community, but it has become short. She cannot afford the cost of the prosthetic limb she needs to make life and work easier for her. Adijat has received her prosthetics limb
Tijani Aminat Omoseke. Above-the-Knee Amputee. One Limb and Seed Funds
Aminat was knocked down by a yellow bus (Danfo) driver in November 2020 while hawking pure water and drinks in Abule -Egba/Oja-oba traffic. As a result of the accident, the right leg was amputated above the knee.
Aminat’s husband abandoned her and her children the previous year. She is a single mother of 2 boys, ages 11 and 9, who are both out of school. She is 28 years old.
She is learning to do manicures and pedicures and wants to start her own business. Providing a prosthetic limb and seed funds for a small-scale business will help Aminat regain her autonomy and return her children to school. She has now gotten her limb.
ANUOLUWA FOLASHADE. Above The Knee Amputee. One Limb and Seed Funds.
AnuOluwa is a 30-year-old woman. She used to hawk fried fish until she had an accident in Ibadan. The amputation of her leg was a result of a motor accident. This occurred on September 7th, 2022.
AnuOluwa is not married and has no children. She is currently living with her older sister. She desires to open a shop where she can sell foodstuff to make her less dependent on her family for support.
She has gotten her limbs.
Agara lnnocentia Chialuka. Below-The-Knee. One Limb.
Chialuka is a 30-year-old woman who was hit on her way to work by a trailer that lost control in 2015. The vehicle had a brake failure. Due to the trauma on the leg, it was amputated that same year. She has been using a prosthetic limb for three years, which is now beyond repair.
Chialuka lives in Lagos. She got married in 2022 and had her first baby in February 2023. She makes hair for customers at home. . Agara has received her prosthetics limb
Daramola Deborah Grace. One Limb and Seed Funds.
Grace is a 56-year-old woman. She was in the yam, vegetables, palm oil and cocoyam selling business. Grace was on her way from Abeokuta to Lagos when she had a fatal accident that took the life of many of the passengers in the vehicle. She was lucky to be alive.
Grace’s arm was amputated on February 24th, 2022, following the injuries sustained during the accident. She was abandoned by her husband over 20 years ago. She has only one child, who is a teacher.
Given the opportunity, Grace wants to start a home-based business frying and selling groundnuts. Grace has received her prosthetics limb
TURKSON ABIGAIL. Above The Knee. One Limb and SME
Abigail is 49 years old. She is a single mother of two children.
Abigail had a motorcycle accident on the way from work on the 7th of June 1999. At first, she refused the amputation and spent three years in Traditional Bone Setters to no avail.
Abigail married a Ghanaian in 2004, who later abandoned her and her two children. She learnt how to make slippers and sandals to earn an income and sustain her young family. She also returned to study computer science at the Federal Trading Centre Ikoyi.
The provision of a prosthetic limb will help her regain her autonomy. Abigail desires to expand her business to make it more profitable. She will therefore be a suitable candidate for the SME project. she has started and as been given equipment for her business. She has now gotten her limb.
ADENIKE ADESANYA. Below The Knee. One Limb and SME.
Mrs Adesanya is 49 years old. She noticed some cluster of blood on the upper part of her feet in April 2021. A few weeks after, she started feeling pain all over her body as a boil appeared on her last toe, which became infected and was not healing. She was diagnosed as diabetic, and the last toe was caught off.
The foot did not heal after the amputation of the toe. After repeated Doppler tests showed that the wound was not healing, doctors decided to amputate the leg below the knee in July 2021.
Mrs Adesanya desires to have a prosthetic limb to facilitate ease of mobility and a small business selling foodstuff and groceries to regain her autonomy and contribute to her and her family’s well-being. Mrs Adenike has received her prosthetic limb
Vivian Okeke. Above-The Knee Amputee. One Limb.
Vivian is a 29- year – old student living in Imo state, Nigeria. Vivian’s leg was first amputated below the knee following a car accident. She later developed a tumor on the stump resulting in further amputation, making her an above-the-knee amputee.
Vivian is an HND 2 Computer Science student at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Abia State. She received her first prosthetic limb in 2018, which the Grooming Centre paid for in full. After five years, Vivian urgently needs to replace the leg so she can continue to enjoy the freedom of full autonomy as she pursues her education. Vivian has received her prosthetics limb.
